Catholic Mission World Appeal is this Sunday (21st October), when we are invited to prayerfully and financially support the missionary Church, in approx. 160 countries. This year the Catholic Mission is profiling the Church’s work with communities in Myanmar. The Church is aiming to train teachers, develop infrastructure, and establish a nationwide alternative school system. A key aspect is the training of teachers in holistic teaching practices within the local context. Please note that the loose money in our collections on Sunday next (28th October) will be for the Missions. Mission Envelopes are also available at the Church should you wish to take one and return it.
News from Rome: On Sunday last Pope Francis canonised seven saints, among them Pope Paul VI (1963-78) and the martyred Salvadoran Archbishop Oscar Romero (1980) at a Mass in St. Peter’s Square before some 70,000 of the faithful. In a sign of the strong influence that Pope Paul and Archbishop Romero had on the first Latin American pope, Pope Francis wore the blood-stained rope belt that Romero wore when he was gunned down by right-wing death squads in 1980, and also used Paul’s staff, and chalice. In his homily, Pope Francis called Pope Paul a “prophet of a church turned outwards” to care for the faraway poor. He said Oscar Romero gave up his security and life to “be close to the poor and his people.”

Fr Pat and Fr Duane have been consecrating these hosts for Coeliacs for the last few years. All you need to do is tell Father before Mass and he will see that your host is available for you to receive. If you would like more information, please contact Patricia Bourke 0433 509 636.
