THIS WEEK

Second Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year C - 20th January 2019
"Proclaim his marvellous deeds to all the nations."

Pope Francis baptised 27 babies during Mass in the Sistine Chapel on Sunday the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord. He reminded the parents that the first space in which children learn and witness the faith is at home. Pope Francis gave a brief, impromptu homily during Mass. The practice of baptising children on that Feastday was introduced by St John Paul II.  In his homily, the Pope said that it is the parents’ task to pass the faith along to their children, beginning at home, “because faith must always be transmitted ‘in dialect': the dialect of the family, in the atmosphere of the home.” He noted that it was perfectly normal for a husband and wife to quarrel but recommended trying to keep arguments out of the view and hearing of their children.

Looking ahead
Ash Wednesday 6th March
Easter Sunday 2019 - 21st April
Proposed date for Confirmation Sunday May 26th

It’s perfect for anyone who may be seeking a deeper meaning and direction in their lives. Who among your friends or family may benefit from this? It may change their lives – or yours. Why not “come and see” and invite someone to come with you, on Friday February 1st at 6:30pm St Michael’s Hall. For catering purposes please either write details of those coming on sign-up sheets in church foyers or contact the Parish Office. We hope to see you there!

Sacramental Marriage: Drawing from today’s Gospel, which records Jesus’ presence at the wedding in Cana, the Church traditionally draws our intention to the Sacramentality of Christian Marriage. Christian Marriage we are reminded mirrors God’s love for His people, Christ’s love for His Church. Conversely Christ’s love for His Church –is  the ideal for Christian marriage.

The Preface for a Nuptial Mass has this sublime statement on Marriage:

“Love is our origin, love is our constant calling, love is our fulfilment in Heaven.

The love of man and woman is made holy in the Sacrament of Marriage, and becomes the mirror of your everlasting love.”

( Nuptial Preface)

Congratulations and prayerful best wishes to Sandra and Gerald Groom who are celebrating their Golden Wedding (Berry).
